Whole30, Day 10
"I'm declaring it a cheat day!" I said to my husband as I reached over and grabbed an arepa with butter. It was Friday night...I had a LONG week, compacted by some family issues that had me stressed to the point my eye was about to start twitching.
Arepas, by the way, are Colombian corn cakes (kinda like a pancake) but not sweet so they can be eaten with anything, sweet or savory. Corn is not allowed on Whole30. Neither is butter. I no longer cared.
Honestly the day stared out well enough. Another early morning shift, another scrambled egg. Fruit with almond butter for snack. And a stuffed acorn squash half for lunch...I actually didn't even finish the squash...there was a lot of fiber there!
But by the time dinner had rolled around I had been awake for about 14 hours and was in NO mood to eat cautiously. I didn't go TOO far off the reservation though. Skirt steak with chimichurri, french fries (ok those were bad too), 2 mini arepas with butter and a fork full of rice and beans. Have I mentioned I love Colombian food?
And beans...I miss beans. I can't wait to go back to my part-time vegetarian diet. I'm actually shocked that this is working considering the amount of meat I'm eating. It just seems counterintuitive. Hopefully I didn't do too much damage. We shall see.
